Description
Since I started back painting, there have been a few key people who have encouraged me to draw more... to try and add a bit of detail to any figurative work I do, etc.
Way back in the mid-90s, all I painted was faceless men and women because I was so intimidated by portrait art... I leaned more toward Abstract than Realism and my inner child felt good.
Then I met portrait artist,
Alga Washington,
in 2010
and when I told her,
_"I can paint but I can't draw"_ ,
she gently echoed
my own words back to me:
"There's no such thing as can't!"
So... as I do more drawing, I'm finding it easier to learn by practicing on the face I know best... my own. This self-portrait of me in my new glasses was drawn on my iPad and transferred to a sheet of plain scratch paper so I could paint and embellish it.
The painting was made using acrylic, rhinestones, and ink on 6" x 9" plain white paper.
