The dictionary defines fortitude as mental and emotional strength in facing difficulty, adversity, danger, or temptation courageously.

When I was doodling in my journal trying to think of what to paint, I started writing instead. The focus was on optimism... seeing the glass as half full instead of empty; the good outweighing the bad; the weak being uplifted, encouraged and supported by the strong. Then The View came on with their Gospel Bunch Show and Donnie McClurkin started singing that song he recorded called, Stand... this painting was the result of that thought stream and the inspiration hearing that song had upon me.


This is a mixed media painting made with gesso, Intense pencils, glitter, acrylic, and ink on 8.5" x 11" Canson heavyweight watercolor paper.
